Apprentice CNC Machinist

Job Purpose

To work under guidance to produce machined parts by programming, setting up and operating a CNC machine; maintaining quality and safety standards, maintaining equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Set up and machining of components under senior guidance, working towards a basic CAM skillset

  • Verifies settings by measuring positions

  • Prepares and maintains tools and equipment for use to ensure quality

  • Loads materials into CNC machinery as directed

  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations

  • Maintains production and quality logs by accurately completing Works Order, Material & Quality Exception datasheets and any other documentation requested

  •  Completes internal fabrication quality and pre assembly inspections using tolerance equipment and Olmec standards

  • Assists, as directed, with the co-ordination of the stock inventory

  • Suggests ways of working within the engineering functions to help the business develop and grow, participates in Manufacturing/ Quality meetings

  • Ensures work area adheres to health & safety & quality standards on a daily basis

  • Assists technicians in the assembly of Olmec machinery as required

  • Forms co-operative and respectful working relationships with colleagues across the business

Key skills:

Computer literate with CAM experience (not essential)

  • Eagerness to develop own skillset

  • Able to work to tight tolerances

  • A strong “hands-on” engineering background

  • An interest in the bigger engineering picture 

  • Ability to plan, prioritise and optimise work load

  • Health & Safety awareness

  • Quality driven

  • Friendly & enthusiastic team player

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Successful completion of the apprenticeship could lead to a higher-level apprenticeship or full-time employment for the right candidate.

Job Purpose

To support the assembly and testing of Olmec systems prior to installation.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Carrying out the building and testing of the Electrical / Control systems to include:

    • Electrical wiring

    • Panel building

  • Commissioning of inputs, outputs and signals

  • Vision system set up

  • Assembling some mechanical elements of a solution

  • Checking of systems as directed prior to them being dispatched to the customer

  • Develop and implement systems and ways of working within the engineering functions to help the business develop and grow

  • Assist with the upkeep of the day to day condition of the Olmec workshop and associated hardware

  • Attend training and to develop relevant knowledge 

KEY SKILLS

  • A strong “hands-on” engineering approach

  • Ability to plan and prioritise work to meet tight deadlines

  • Attention to detail and thorough

  • Proactive approach to work and good team worker

  • An interest in PLCs 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • An Electrical apprenticeship with Olmec could lead to a career as an automation engineer, an electrical designer, a vision engineer or a project manager.

Multi Skilled Apprentice Technician

Job Purpose

To support the assembly and testing of Olmec systems prior to installation.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Carrying out the building and testing of the Electrical / Control systems to include:

    • Electrical wiring

    • Panel building

  • Assembling some mechanical and electrical elements of a solution

  • Planning and organizing hardware building to specification and in a professional manner

  • Shaping of mechanical components and equipment using hand tools and machining methods

  • Internal fabrication quality and preassembly inspections

  • Working with colleagues to check systems run smoothly, safely and meet performance targets prior to dispatch to the customer

  • Assisting in the day to day running and maintenance of the workshop

  • Attend training and to develop relevant knowledge 

KEY SKILLS

  • Innovative and passionate approach to engineering

  • A strong “hands-on” background and ‘can do’ attitude

  • Attention to detail and thorough

  • Clear communicator and great listener

  • Ability to plan and prioritise work to meet tight deadlines

  • An interest in PLCs and CAD design

Mechanical Apprentice

Job Purpose

To support the assembly and testing of Olmec systems prior to installation.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Shaping of mechanical components and equipment using hand tools and machining methods

  • Preparing and maintaining machine tools and equipment for use

  • Assisting in the manufacture of components using CNC milling and turning equipment

  • Assembling mechanical components to meet required specification

  • Planning and organizing hardware building to specification and in a professional manner

  • Internal fabrication quality and preassembly inspections

  • Assisting in the day to day running and maintenance of the workshop

  • Working with colleagues to check systems run smoothly, safely and meet performance targets prior to dispatch to the customer

  • Attending training and developing relevant knowledge including electrical multi skilling

 KEY SKILLS

  • Innovative and passionate approach to engineering

  • A strong “hands-on” background and ‘can do’ attitude

  • Attention to detail and thorough

  • Good problem-solving ability

  • Clear communicator and great listener

  • An interest in CAD design
